Art + Design: Animation + Game Arts
½ûÂþÌìÌà William Marrandette
Greetings everyone, my name is William. My true interest in art really started at the end of high school in senior year when I first discovered and became enthralled by digital art, as before this I had really only done pencil sketches in my notebook during class. Needless to say, art has become something I am now truly passionate about and I’ve been seeking new techniques and forms of art to continuously challenge me and help me improve. For example I picked up digital painting last year, and 3D character modeling / sculpting just last semester.
My focus is pretty squarely on concept art, character design, and 3D character art. I like to combine my passions for both history and art by creating characters, armor, props, and environments inspired by historical people and places; such as Medieval Europe, The Roman Empire, and the Greek City States.
Statement
My Capstone has been a grand culmination of my two main passions and all the skills and software I have learned through my journey at ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ. The whole project began of course with concept art for the character and creature I sought to create, and the subsequent process of 3D sculpting all the required assets has taken the entire length of this semester up to the last minute. What I ended up creating was the Knight Sir Friedhelm Von Birkenstein of the Order of the Waning Moon, along with his heavily armored war mount. Sir Friedhelm’s design has been inspired by several historically German and French armors from the late Middle Ages and Renaissance eras, with an addition of some modern sporting armor and fantasy cool factor. The giant lizard war mount is inspired mainly from the Shringasaurus of the Triassic Period, but scaled up and given extra fantasy horns; and the lizard armor was inspired by several late middle and early renaissance horse armors from several museums. The inspiration for the posing of the figures as well as the base they stand on was inspired by tabletop miniatures such as Warhammer which I have become fascinated by recently.
