Statement

My senior thesis focuses on redesigning the Westside Family YMCA in San Antonio, Texas into a community center that supports children who have experienced frequent relocations—whether due to a parent’s job, military service, or changing schools. Frequent moves can disrupt emotional, social, and academic development, particularly in childhood. This project aims to provide a consistent, welcoming environment where children can build stability, foster connections, and gain skills that will help them adapt. San Antonio, known for its strong military ties and cultural richness, serves as the ideal location for a prototype center that could be adopted to multiple states so children always know they have a comfortable environment, no matter where they move to.
