Art + Design: Graphic Design | Fashion Design Minor
½ûÂþÌìÌà Ruby Louro
Ruby Louro is a multidisciplinary designer based in Southeastern Massachusetts. She graduated from ½ûÂþÌìÌà Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with concentrations in both Graphic Design and Fashion Design. Her creative work is inherently interdisciplinary, often intertwining her passions for fashion, graphic design, illustration, and photography to tell stories. She strives to weave together diverse influences into her work based on her oceanside upbringing and childhood.
When not designing, she can often be found exploring thrift stores for clothing to upcycle, hunting for vinyl records to expand her collection, or savoring a good book in a coffee shop.
Statement
Creating my own clothing line is something I’ve dreamed of ever since I was a little girl. The brand name, “Querida” pays homage to my Portuguese upbringing. The clothing is inspired by Madeiran folkmore garments, while the surface design is heavily influenced by Madeiran embroidery and iconography of the sea.
My Portuguese roots and the culture’s emphasis on tradition, family, and vibrant storytelling infuse my creations with a sense of warmth and history. I draw inspiration from patterns, textures, and colors that evoke a sense of place and nostalgia, crafting pieces that resonate with both memory and modernity. Whether it’s a garment designed to evoke a beloved childhood motif or a graphic composition that tells a layered cultural story, my work seeks to bridge the past and present in meaningful ways.
