Art + Design: Graphic Design
½ûÂþÌìÌà Rhys Henger
Rhys Henger is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator based on the South Coast of Massachusetts. He began as a self-taught hobbyist illustrator in high school before studying graphic and web design at Bristol Community College in Fall River. After graduating with an associate's degree in Graphic Design and a Web Design Certificate from BCC, Rhys transferred to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, where he is graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design in 2025.
Rhys has a passion for both digital, traditional designs for print, blending elements of branding, typography, and character illustration with a retro aesthetic. His work often features animals as allegories for human constructs and society, drawing inspiration from comics and animated films.
Outside of Graphic Design, he has been independently studying 3D modeling in Blender for product and character design.
Statement
Toxik Rejekts is a post-apocalyptic liquor brand, featuring mutated anthropomorphic characters with radioactive attributes for taste. The brand and character designs were inspired by post-apocalyptic video games, comics/manga and atomic age monster movies from the 50’s and 80’s. The project includes illustrated labels featuring the characters, incorporated into the bottle designs. For the background, designs were used with digital half-tone effects and collage of juxtaposition creatures to make the grungy aesthetic and dark atmosphere of this strange but dangerous post-apocalyptic world dominated by mutated cryptic beasts.
