Statement

Greetings fellow earthling and welcome to The Eighty Fourth Cent ! Did you know that in 1987 there were 206 lesbian bars in the United States and as of 2025 there are only 34? Intrigued by these statistics I explored further and wrote my APEX paper The Disappearance and Resurgence of Lesbian Bars to find the reasons for why they have dwindled over the years and how they are coming back. The most frequently occurring culprit in my research appeared to be the wage gap, in which women currently make 84 cents to the dollar that men make. My capstone project is a brand identity for a theoretical lesbian bar that is inspired by and addresses this issue.

Although this branding is targeted toward lesbians, all are welcome and meant to enjoy it as it is a non-exclusionary space. By all means except physically (in the sense of buying a bar) I wanted to make this place real. One quality of graphic design that relentlessly draws me to it is how one can begin to formulate a feeling of what a place may be like through their designed assets and products. These feelings combined is what guided and inspired me to create as many deliverables as possible and a final design that felt worthy if it ever were to truly exist!Website:
